Albert H. Bishop

HAMPDEN - Albert H. Bishop, 81, died peacefully April 18, 2013, at home in Hampden, surrounded by his family. He was born June 9, 1931, in Milo, the son of Earl W. Bishop and Lillian (Kalnin) Bishop.

He attended Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church. Albert was a graduate of Lagrange High School in 1949 and the University of Maine in February 1954m with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 and sent overseas to Germany and served with the 33rd F.A. Battalion, 1st Infantry Division in Bamberg.

Albert had a 35-year career with Maine Department of Transportation at the Bangor Division Office and retired in 1991. He was a registered professional engineer and a registered land surveyor. Albert was a 50-year member of Composite Lodge No. 168, Lagrange; a member of Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor; Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor; and Consistory 32nd degree, Portland. He was life member of the Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club, a life member of Sunshine Club for Children and a member of the Second Section. Albert was also a member of Maine Better Transportation Association and National Rifle Association. Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and his summer camp at Coldstream Pond, Enfield. He also enjoyed camping with family and friends yearly at Baxter State Park and hiking Mount Katahdin.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma (Lowell) Bishop of Hampden; his two sons, Roger E. Bishop and his wife. Lise. of Hyannis, Mass., and David C. Bishop and his wife, Leanne, of Hampden; two daughters, Laura A. Osborne and her husband, Robert, of Hampden and Susan J. Gaines and husband, William, of Fredericton, New Brunswick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley and Alan Bishop of Massachusetts, Joshua Osborne of Hampden, Anna and Abbie Bishop of Hampden and Sarah and Kate Gaines of New Brunswick; and a great-granddaughter, Makayla of Yarmouth, Mass. He is also survived by two brothers, John C. Bishop and wife, Jean, of Lagrange and Earl W. Bishop of Enfield; a sister, Josephine Ricker and husband, Bernard, of Milo; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Albert was predeceased by a son, Warren A. Bishop, in August 1987.

Visiting hours will be 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home with the Rev. David Nicol, pastor of Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church officiating.
