|LAGRANGE - Winona "Winnie" I. Roberts, 78, passed away quietly Nov. 30, 2012, surrounded by her family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 13, 1933, daughter of Alvin and Hattie (Rolfe) Roberts.|
Winnie worked for Dexter Shoe Co., Milo, as a hand-sewer for many years. In later years she worked at the corner store in LaGrange and was known for her wonderful cooking, especially her pies and fudge. She became known in LaGrange and surrounding towns as the "Candy Apple Lady," and both kids and adults would flock to her house every Halloween just to get one. She was a force to be reckoned with but was loved by all. Winnie was happiest when she was with her family and looked forward to being all together on the holidays. She was very spontaneous. All her family learned never to say, "Toss me a roll" at the dinner table because she took that very literal and you had better be ready to catch it or you would get hit with it. Winnie had a wonderful sense of humor and always kept her family laughing.
Winona is survived by three sons, Edward Roberts and wife, Brenda, of Brownville Junction, Corey Roberts and partner, Barbara Willette, of LaGrange, and John Henry Theriault of Williamsburg; stepson, Gary Paradis and wife, Diane, of Vernon, Connecticut; stepdaughter, Theresa Leonard and husband, Gerald, of Lincoln; three sisters, Marlene Farrar of East Millinocket, Astrid Paulson of Templeton, Mass., and Suzanna Cleveland of Princeton, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Theresa Lovejoy and husband, Michael, of Williamsburg, Edward "Philip" Roberts and wife, Anne, of Sterling, Ill., Danielle and Corey "C.J."
