Claire E. Daggett

Claire E. (Smith) Daggett, 79, of Manchester, Conn., beloved wife of the late Harvey Elliott Daggett and dearly loved mother, passed away peacefully Aug. 27, 2012, surrounded by family members. She was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Brownville, daughter of the late Elwyn and Hilda (Boobar) Smith.

Prior to moving to Manchester, Conn., Claire had been a resident of East Hartford, Conn., for more than 40 years. Claire spent her life caring for others. Her kitchen light was always on with a fresh pot of coffee and goodies to be shared. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, listening to music, playing Yahtzee, going to tag sales and antique shops. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and her house was decorated from top to bottom.

She is survived by her children, April Daggett Willhide and her husband, Richard, of Manchester, Conn., Robert Daggett of Ellsworth, Hilda Wylie of Bristol, Conn., Luanne Peters of Bar Harbor and Stephen Peters and his wife, D'Anna, of Kaneohe, Hawaii; her sister, Nona Brown and her husband, Neil Marshall, of Abbot; her special granddaughter, Jennifer Willhide of Berlin, Conn.; beloved grandchildren, Kevin Peters, Travis Peters, Samuel Peters, Ronada Santell, David Hanlon, Duane Hanlon, Stephanie Wylie and Mindy Smith; several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by her son, Ronald Peters; her sister, Joan O'Shea; and her brother, Henry Smith. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Gordon Brodie of Manchester, Conn., and the staff of Manchester Manor.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester, Conn., with a private burial in Maine.
