Thomas M. Kennedy

KENDUSKEAG - Thomas M. Kennedy, 87, left his earthly home Feb. 13, 2012. He was six days from his 88th birthday. He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Milo, son of Ernest and Ethel (Ballard) Kennedy. This kind and gentle man will be fondly remembered by those he left behind: Ruth (Smith), wife of more than 65 years, Crystal Beam and husband, Emmett, of Corinth, Carol and husband, Richard Roberts, of Gorham, Thomas "Tim" and wife, Jennifer, of Kenduskeag and New Hampshire, and Karen of Foxboro, Mass.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Liona Speed, Ethel Storman, Dorothy McLaughlin and Eunice Coughlin; brother, John "Jack" and wife, Arlene; sister-in-law, Eva Kennedy, along with several nieces and nephews. Tom served his country in World War II, stationed for three years in the Pacific Islands without any rest and relaxation. He enjoyed working with leather and was employed in shoe factories in Maine and Massachusetts until starting his own company, Katahdin Trail Moccasins. He also operated Triple-K Take-Out for 20 years with his wife. He was a 4-H leader and active grange member for 63 years, including master of the local one for 14 years. He was also a member of Pamona and State granges, and was a member of the local Masonic lodge. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a remembrance service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, with the Rev. Raymond Reece officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Kenduskeag Village Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service.
