Raymond A. Webb

KING GEORGE COUNTY, VA - Raymond A. Webb, 79, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at his residence. He was born Oct. 15, 1931, in Milo. He graduated from Milo High School in 1949. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, served in the U.S. and Germany, attained the rank of sergeant first class and was honorably discharged in December 1952. He completed graduate studies and was awarded a master's degree in history in 1960 from the University of Maine. In July 1960, he was appointed a revenue officer with the Internal Revenue Service. In 1965 he was promoted to the position of national office collection analyst and transferred to Washington, D.C. In 1965 he was commissioned a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy Reserves - intelligence, retiring in 1983 with the rank of commander. During his service with the Internal Revenue Service National Office he was promoted to higher management positions, including that of director, planning staff - computer services, and retired in 1987 as special assistant to the assistant commissioner - computer services. Raymond was a member of several Masonic orders, including Scottish Rite and National Sojourners. Raymond married Sylvia J. Henderson of Milo, in 1954. She is a licensed practical nurse in the state of Virginia. They are the proud parents of four children, Mark A. and Robin Webb of King George, Va., Beth J. and Keely Grice of Charlotte, N.C., Todd E. and Carla Webb of King George, Va., and Lynn A. and Dave Cox of Sarasota, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Interment will be private at a later date in Maine.
