Franklin D. Kirby

BROWNVILLE JCT. - Franklin D. Kirby, 91, husband of the late Pearl (Bennett) Kirby, died Sept. 6, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Brownville Junction, the son of John and Marion (Stevens) Kirby. Frank and Pearl were married in 1946 and they shared 63 years of loving marriage in Brownville Junction. Frank was a U.S. Navy veteran in the Construction Battalion - Seabees. He was employed as a conductor with the railroad for many years and was known around town as an excellent carpenter. He was a member of Bernard Jones American Legion Post No. 92, Brownville Junction. Frank was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Gerald; and his sister, Ottilee (Kirby) Bennett. He is survived by two sons, James and his wife, Katherine "Kit," of Brownville and Brent and his companion, Dena Hayden, of Hermon; two grandchildren, Craig Kirby and his wife, Julie, of Cumberland and Dawn Kirby of Alton; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Kirby of Cumberland; and two brothers, John Leslie Kirby and his wife, Mary, of Wilton and Dennis Kirby and his wife, Ruth, of Schoodic Lake. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in the family lot at Pinetree Cemetery, Brownville Junction, with the Rev. Stephen Dean officiating.
