JAY - Joyce E. Smith, 91, a longtime resident of Lavoie Street, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, May 27, 2011, with her family by her side, at her residence. She was born July 9, 1919, in Milo, the daughter of Raymond and Gertrude (Hathorn) Hall. Joyce was a graduate of Bradford High School. On March 28, 1938, in Palmyra, she married her husband of 67 years, Rochie Smith, who passed away Aug. 9, 2005. Joyce was a waitress through the years, but her true joy was caring for her family. She was an extraordinary mother, caring for her disabled son for more than 40 years until his relocation to Harris House, Livermore Falls. Joyce was very artistic and painted beautiful oil paintings. She was also an exceptional seamstress and she loved to restore dolls - she would make new clothes, shoes, hats, fix their hair and then she would give them away. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Linda and Wesley Nash of Millinocket and Florida; her son, Blaine Smith of Livermore Falls; granddaughters, Laurie Nash of Marietta, Ohio, and Diane MacGilvray of Melbourne, Fla. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Lisa Lorraine Smith; and her sister, Thelma Ward. A graveside service and interment will be announced at a later date. If desired, contributions may be made to Harris House, 45 Brookside Ave., Livermore Falls, ME 04254. Arrangements by Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.finleyfuneralhome.com.
