Esther I. Deschene

HAMPDEN - Esther Irene Deschene, 89, passed away peacefully April 3, 2011, at her home. Esther was born Feb. 19, 1922, in Brownville, to Carol and Persis Arbo. Esther attended Hampden Academy and graduated from Bangor High School in 1940. She attended the University of Maine in Presque Isle and Bangor while she was employed there. Esther sang in the choir at St. Theresa's Church, Brewer, and was a past president of St. Theresa's School PTA. She was vice president of Brewer American Legion Auxiliary, and worked at Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer, and for 11 years at Schenck High School, East Millinocket, where the students dedicated a year book in her honor. Esther is survived by her husband, Roland Deschene of Hampden; a son, Henry F. King III and wife, Donna, of Texas; three sisters, Cora Gagnon of South Carolina, Ida Blake of Texas and Elizabeth Wagner and husband, Marshall, of Florida; two stepdaughters, Patricia O'Neill and husband, Gregory, of Massachusetts, and Sandra Connelly of Connecticut; a godchild, Mary Noland of Arizona; as well as many special grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Esther was predeceased by her parents; a son, Robert A. King; and five brothers, Alexander, Arthur, Elwood, Harden and Quentin Arbo. Family and friends are invited to visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden.
