James L Ladd

MEDFORD - James Loring Ladd, 76, husband of Shirlene (Harris) Ladd, died Dec. 31, 2009, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Milo, the son of Vaughn and Marian (McKechnie) Ladd. A graduate of Bowdoin College, Class of 1954, Jim served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He owned and operated a real estate and insurance business for many years, followed by years as an independent real estate appraiser. After retiring Jim continued to work at Harmon's Shell Station, Milo. Jim was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials. He had served as a local Boy Scout leader and thoroughly enjoyed all the local sports. He loved caring for his home and camp. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirlene Ladd of Medford; his children, Kyle Ladd and wife, Debbie, of Canaan, Lori Cummings and husband, Doug, of Bowerbank, Lana Merchant and husband, Danny, of North Windham and Kent Ladd and wife, Karen, of Lakeview. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Jodi McGary and husband, Chris, of Pittsfield, Jason Cummings and wife, Christy, of Milford, Conn., Jenn Saucier and husband, Eric, of Pittsfield, Justin Ladd of North Chelmsford, Mass., Megan Ladd of Saco, Levi Ladd and wife, Kacie, of St. Albans, Eli Ladd of Portland and Erin Merchant of North Windham; and his great-grandchildren, Laney and Emma McGary of Pittsfield, Tanner Ladd of St. Albans and Jackson Saucier of Pittsfield. He also leaves his sister, Joanne DeWitt and husband, Eben of Milo; two nephews, David Hamlin of Portland and Dick DeWitt of Lakeview; many great-nieces, great-nephews and good friends. Friends are invited to call 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, until the time of memorial service 11 a.m. at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Michele St. Cyr officiating. All are invited to share fellowship and stories at Park Street United Methodist Church, Milo, after the service. Spring burial will be in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo.
