John M. Drake

LAGRANGE - John M. Drake, 67, beloved husband of Rose (Morgan) Drake, passed away peacefully July 12, 2009, surrounded by his family, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 10, 1942, in LaGrange, the son of Vaughn and Irene (Sjostedt) Drake. John was a very hard working man. He ran three stores throughout the years and he owned and operated a construction company for many years before he became ill. He prided himself on doing an excellent job at everything he did. John was known for his honesty, integrity and generosity, and had many friends because of these attributes. He always loved a good deal. He is survived by his wife, Rose of LaGrange; two daughters, Jeannie Valley and her husband, Tony, of Brewer and Lynn Rublee of LaGrange; a son, Michael Drake of LaGrange; two sisters, Dotti Drake of LaGrange and Margaret and her husband, Reggie Earley, of Alton; a brother, Bertram Drake and his wife, Betty, of California; eight grandchildren who loved and adored him, Ben, Sheri, Jacob and Spencer Valley, Matthew and Jonathan Rublee, Mike and Morgan Drake; and his mother-in-law of 35 years, Ella Brown of LaGrange. He will be remembered by a special friend, Clarence Bryer, who had recently spent a great deal of time with John. John was predeceased by his parents; a son, John M. Drake; and two sisters, Betty Storman and Albertine Drake. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with Pastor David Morrison officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Hillcrest Cemetery, LaGrange.
