Jennie Larson

BROWNVILLE - Jennie "Jean" Larson, 99, a longtime resident of Brownville, passed away Sept. 27, 2008, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Hilmor E. Larson. She was born May 15, 1909, in Brownville Junction, the daughter of Charles and Sarah (Thomas) Smith. Jean was a graduate of Brownville Junction High School, Class of 1927, and was recognized as the oldest living member of Brownville Junction Alumni Association in August 2003. She was a homemaker and later worked at J.L. Lewis Mill, Brownville, for several years. Jean enjoyed making crafts, especially needlepoint and crocheting. She was extremely proud of her many crazy quilts and was pleased to share them with others. She is survived by six sons, Roger and his wife, Terry, of Northfield, Conn., Charles and his wife, Selma, of Brownville, Ronald and his wife, Ann, of Brownville Junction, Galen and his wife, Joan, of Milo, Lawrence and his wife, Gail, of Randolph, Mass., and Gary and his wife, Elaine, of Dover-Foxcroft; and four daughters, Patricia Dahany of Louisville, Ky., Colleen Belanger and her husband, Jack, of Laurel, Md., Verna Mullen and her husband, John, of Mesa, Ariz., and Marea Brewer and her husband, Norman, of South Riding, Va. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Charles Smith of Lubbock, Texas; a son-in-law, Ronald MacKenzie of Connecticut; and several nieces. She was predeceased by a son, Stanley Larson; a daughter, Doretta Larson MacKenzie; a son-in-law, Alan Dahany; and a brother, Charles Smith. The family extends a special thank you for the wonderful care provided by Jean's caregivers, Sue, Ann, Elaine, Terry, Deborah, Kathy, Suzzett and Cheryl. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Nancy Moore officiating. All are invited to share fellowship and refreshment at Brownville Junction Alumni Building after the committal service at the family lot at Brownville Village Cemetery.
