BRADFORD - Henry Fred Chase Jr., 82, went home to be with his Lord, May 1, 2008, with his loving wife by his side, as she had been throughout his illness and life, after a short illness at Maine Veterans' Home, Bangor. He was born July 14, 1925, in Atkinson, the son of Henry and Gertrude (Trask) Chase. Henry grew up on his family's farm in Atkinson creating memories he often later shared with his children and grandchildren. On Sept. 24, 1944, he married the love of his life, Hilda M. He went to work for the Maine Department of Transportation, where he served as supervisor of the bridge crew until his retirement in 1987. His retirement years found him spending his summers from early spring until late fall working on projects at his camp on East Grand Lake and spending time with his family and friends. Henry was predeceased by one son, Kirk; and one sister, Florence Libby. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Hilda Chase; four sons, Henry Chase III and wife, Martha, of Mena, Ark., Allen and wife, Bonnie, of Glenburn, Kevin and wife, Cindy, of Orneville, and Kendall and wife, Jan, of Bradford; one daughter, Faye and husband, Bert Sell, of Londonderry, N.H. He has 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind four brothers, Cecil and wife, Lucille, Robert, Terry and wife, MaryLou, and Harold and wife, Roxanne; three sisters, Joyce Leavitt, Elizabeth and husband, Lester Stevens, and Pauline Norwood. A special thank you to the staff of Maine Veterans' Home for all their loving care.
