SPRING HILL FL. - Katherine Ruth "Cissy" Valente, 71, passed away peacefully Feb. 23, 2008, surrounded by her loved ones, after a brief battle with cancer. Kathy was born Oct. 23, 1936, in Milo, to Mad-elyn Washburn Deschamps and Ernest Deschamps, who both predeceased her. She graduated from Milo High School in 1954 and received her associate degree from Plus Gray's School of Business. Kathy moved from her long-term home in Windham to Florida in 1986, where she resided until her death. Kathy loved her family and friends deeply and enjoyed spending time with them at the family cottage on Schoodic Lake. She enjoyed traveling extensively, both inside and outside of the United States. Entertaining at her homes in Windham, Naples and Spring Hill, Fla. Her home was always open to all who knew her and she passed that huge legacy on to all of her children. Her love for life, the twinkle in her eye and her infectious smile were a gift to all who knew her. She never spoke badly about anyone and was a great sounding board to the numerous teenagers who considered her home on Falmouth Road their second home. Kathy "Cissy" is survived by her four children, Deanna Valente, Ernie Valente and his wife, Julie, Renee Tringali and her husband, Paul, all of Windham and Scott Valente and his wife, Nancy, of Raymond. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; four sisters, Rosemarie and her husband, Lewis Eastman, of Spring Hill, Fla., Rena and her husband, Glenn Stanchfield, of Tamarac, Fla., Polly and her husband, Lee Ellis, of Brooksville, Fla., and Lakeview and Nancy and her husband, Bruce Bantle, of South Windsor, Conn.; her former husband, Henry Valente of Windham; numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held 1 p.m. March 8 at Verrillo's Restaurant, Riverside Street, Exit 48, Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Windham Cancer Support Group, care of Amy Tringali, 34 Walter Partridge Road, Windham, ME 04062. A burial ceremony will be held in the spring.
