Christina Larson Searles

BROWNVILLE - Christina "Bessie" Larson Searles, 90, wife of the late Robert Searles, died unexpectedly Feb. 15, 2008, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born June 1, 1917, in Canada, the daughter of George and Christina (McLeod) Hatton. As a young woman, Bessie worked at Lewis's Mill, Brownville, for the Canadian Pacific Railroad and later at Rollins Hat Factory, Brownville Junction. She retired from the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 1979. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Brownville. Bessie loved traveling and visiting. She especially treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bessie is survived by a son, Dennis and his wife, Irene Larson, of Williamsburg; a daughter, Brenda Buchanan and her husband, Tim, of Arkport, N.Y.; four stepdaughters, Roberta Smith and her husband, David, of Rockport, Susan Herring and her husband, Thomas, of Millinocket, DeeDee Ellingson and her husband, David, of Poulsbo, Wash., and Donna Curtis of Glenburn; two sisters, Viola Goodrow and her husband, Joseph, of Dover-Foxcroft and Laura Hamlin of Old Town; 12 grandchildren and several great-grand-children. She will be missed by a special friend, Rose Gennazzi. Bessie was predeceased by two brothers, James and Roderick; and her first husband, Oscar Larson. Friends are invited to call noon until time of the funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Nancy Moore officiating.
