Elba E. Cottrell

LAGRANGE - Elba E. Cottrell, 78, wife of the late Adelbert L. Cottrell Sr., died Jan. 2, 2008, surrounded by her family and friends, at Mount St. Joseph, Waterville. She was born Jan. 28, 1929, in Orneville, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Herbest) Lyford. She was charter member of LaGrange Full Gospel Church, and had been instrumental in the fundraising and building of the church. Elba taught Sunday school, and Children's Church; she belonged to the Women's Ministries and was very involved with the church's prayer groups. She was a loving and devoted mother to her family, as she especially enjoyed her children and their friends. She always had a place for one more child and never turned anyone away. She is survived by her children, Vera Thompson and her husband, Gary, of Medway, Laura Pelkey of Bangor, Larry Cottrell and his wife, Shirley, of Augusta, Jenette Cooley and her husband, Charles, of Dixmont, Lee Gustin and his wife, Jeni, of Dexter and Arthur Cottrell and his wife, Eileen, of Garland; her brothers, Frank Lyford Jr. of LaGrange, Robert Lyford Sr. of Hudson and Newell Lyford of Brewer; her sisters, Gertude Hunt of Milo, Linda Thompson and her husband, Durwood, of Charleston and Brenda Bowden and her husband, Edward, of Bangor; an uncle, Kenneth Lyford Sr. of Orono; an aunt, Elnora Lyford of LaGrange; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband; and two children, Ronald and Amy. Elba's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mount St. Joseph for their loving care throughout the years and to the Waterville area hospice volunteers for their caring attention during her last days. Friends are invited to call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at LaGrange Full Gospel Church, with a celebration of her life conducted 1 p.m. with the Rev. Edward Costain officiating. A graveside service in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
