Duane R. Whitney

BREWER - Duane R. Whitney, 73, died Nov. 14, 2007, at a Rockport hos-pital. He was born June 8, 1934, in Milo, the son of Ralph E. and Mary (Weeks) Whitney. He was a graduate of Bangor High School and attended Husson College. He enjoyed playing sports and in his younger years worked as a golf professional at Lucerne, Mount Kineo and Megunticook Golf Clubs. He served in the U.S. Army, where he played on the Fort Sill golf team. Later he learned to make liquid oxygen at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, which was part of the then new space program. After leaving the Army, he pursued a career in sales, eventually owning his own business. He had many friends among his customers. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Katherine; daughters, Jennifer and husband, Gyakyi, of Peterborough, N.H., and Deborah and husband, Eric, of Cambridge, Mass.; grandsons, Connor and Del; brother, David and wife, Nancy, of Rye, N.H.; sister-in-law, Germaine of York; five nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and by his brother, Dale of York. At Duane's request, there will be no funeral services. A private graveside burial will be held at a later date.
