Kathleen M. Gustafson

BOWERBANK - Kathleen M. Gustafson, 66, died Aug. 15, 2007, at her home after a long illness. Kathy was born Sept. 7, 1940, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Einar L. and Martha V. (Hayes) Gustafson. She attended schools in Worcester and worked as a nurse for six years at St. Vincent's Hospital. Kathy later entered the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary convent in Fitchburg, Mass., where she served for 11 years as the administrator of the Holy Family Infirmary. Subsequently, Kathy became the first executive director of Hill House, an assisted living facility in Riverside, Conn., serving in that capacity for 22 years. It was during her tenure at Hill House that a new resident building was constructed, tripling the census to more than 40 residents. Kathy retired to Bowerbank in 2000. Kathy is survived by her devoted companion, Eleanor M. Monaco of Bowerbank; her brother, James B. Gustafson and his wife, Dorothy, of Bowerbank; her sister, Jean Caracciolo and her husband, Robert, of West Yarmouth, Mass.; her nieces, Cari A. Sloan and Gina Harris; her nephew, Jason Car-acciolo, all of Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held locally 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, 1213 Dexter Road, Dover-Foxcroft and another will be held at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, Waltham, Mass., at a future date. Burial will be at Bowerbank Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent to one of the following, Hill House - Home for the Elderly, 10 Riverside Ave., Riverside, CT 06878; St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, P.O. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
