BREWER & LAGRANGE - Florice B. Ward, 89, died May 12, 2007, at a Brewer health care facility. She was born March 15, 1918, in LaGrange, the daughter of Arthur and Pansy (White) Ward. She was an excellent cook; two favorites were delicious cream puffs and date squares. Bird watching was a pastime and she knew all the species. Chair caning was another hobby. Florice was an expert seamstress, tatted many beautiful pieces and could crochet any pattern. She did needlepoint and knit sweaters, scarfs, hats, mittens and baby sets; sometimes turning out several items a week. As a little girl, she developed epilepsy and wasn't able to do many things others took for granted. She viewed the world from her home in LaGrange Center, watching over the schools, general store, post office, church and garage. Florice graduated from LaGrange High School and in her later years still recalled geography, math and historical facts. In 1991, she became a resident of Brewer Rehab and Living Center, where she enjoyed outings, bingo, music and parties. Florice's sisters, Dorothy Ward, Helen Chase and Natalie Schlick; and her two brothers, Herbert Ward and Donald Ward, all predeceased her. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, that all had a special place in her heart. Her caregivers and Brewer Rehab became her family also and many are to be recognized for going above and beyond their duties; restoring and altering dresses, bringing her treats and fixing her early morning coffee. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor of St. John's Catholic Church, Bangor, officiating.
