January 25, 1938
- March 26, 2006

MILO - Donna Rae (Tonnberg) Drew, beloved wife of Ronald E. Drew of Milo, lost her courageous battle with cancer Sunday, March 26, 2006, at her winter home in Tucson, Ariz. She was born Jan. 25, 1938, to June and Harold Tonnberg of North Chicago Heights, Ill. After spending her earlier years in Winthrop Harbor, Ill., Donna lived in Zion, Ill. and graduated from Zion-Benton High School in June 1956. Donna honorably served our country as a medical technician in the U.S. Air Force (Women in the Air Force - WAF) from 1957-1959. While she was in the Air Force she met and married Airman Ronnie Drew. She and her Airman husband were stationed all over the world including Amarillo, Texas, Taiwan, Italy, Darmstadt and Augsburg, Germany. They finished their 20 years of service in San Antonio, Texas, at the Security Service Annex of Kelly Air Force Base. Throughout their years in the Air Force they made many life long friends especially the Harwood, Allen and Momeny families of San Antonio, Texas. After her children had all entered into school, Donna began St. Philip's College School of Nursing in San Antonio, Texas and graduated Jan. 13, 1976, as a licensed practical nurse, LPN. Donna loved the position and duties of the old-fashioned LPN due to its close personal care with patients. When the Drew's moved from San Antonio, Texas to Milo in 1977, Donna continued her nursing service in Dover-Foxcroft, at Mayo Regional Hospital until she retired in 2002. Donna was the most loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, nurse and friend. Her importance to our family was immeasurable and she was and remains always our angel. Donna never, ever, missed an opportunity to tell all of us how much she loved us. Donna so loved her man, Ronnie. Ronnie provided for her, took care of her, made her laugh and most of all he loved her for all of their lives together. They loved to live together, travel together and play together. When both Donna and Ronnie retired, they divided their time between Milo, and Tucson, Ariz. It was in Tucson that Donna was able to live in the same Western Way Resort as her childhood friend, Mary Roberts and her husband, Donald. Donna had many great friendships at Western Way Resort; she is loved by many and will be missed so very much. Donna was predeceased by her father, Harold Tonnberg; and second father, Clifford Leech. In addition to her husband, Ronald, she is survived by her mother, June Leech; and brothers, Michael Tonnberg and Greg Leech of Zion, Ill. and their lovely children and grandchildren. She was adored and greatly loved by her four children, Mitchell and his fiance, Kathryn Gill, of Rye, N.H., Michelle and Jeanne Martin of Dexter, Philip and his wife, Mary, of Orono, Amanda Hamlin and Michael "Mick" Wilcox of Pittsfield; her beloved grandchildren are Joshua, Justin, Kimberly and Jacob Drew along with their mom, Lisa Strout-Drew of Portsmouth, N.H., Corinna Skall Elliott and her husband, Michael, Natalie, Patrick and Daniel Skall of Orono, Ciera Rae Hamlin of Pittsfield and her dad, Richard "Richie" Hamlin of Canaan; great-grandson, Kaleb Cecchetti and his mom, Jen Cecchetti of Greenland, N.H. There are many in-laws and special friends who mourn her passing. We especially remember the earlier passing of Philip, Kip, Vera "Nana," Donna, Janis and Robin. A special thanks to all the healthcare providers who cared for our mom during her battle with cancer including Dr. Openshaw and everyone else at EMMC Cancer Care of Maine. From Donna's kids, we are forever grateful for the faithful partnership, love and support that our father Ronnie gave to our Mom especially during the later years as they jointly battled against her cancer. Dad stood by her, supported her, loved her and showed the patience only possible in a truly loving relationship. We love you, Dad and thank you for helping your wife and our Mom live a great life. Mom, we all love you. A Mass intention for Donna will be offered at the daily Mass 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, at the Newman Center Catholic Church, 83 College Ave., Orono. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Lary Funeral Home, 31 Elm St., Milo. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Milo. Those who wish to make donations in Donna's memory may send them to Mayo Regional Hospital, 897 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
