BROWNVILLE - Chester E. Witham, 71, husband of Margaret (Burgoyne) Witham, died March 12, 2006, at his residence. He was born June 22, 1934, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Alfred and Mildred (Lyford) Witham. A graduate of Milo High School, he served with the U.S. Army from 1956-58 and then with the Army Reserves until 1963. He was employed by Great Northern Paper Company for 20 years. Chester, who was "one of a kind," loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. He simply loved nature. He spent a great deal of time at "Stagger Inn," where many relationships were formed and blossomed. His wisdom and sense of humor will continue to thrive. His family greatly appreciates all of the love and support given throughout his illness and passing, as well as at the time of the loss of his son, James in November 2005. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Brownville; three sons, Jerald of Brownville, Jon of Bradford, and Jeffrey of Brownville; a daughter, Jenise (Witham) McSorley and her husband, William, of Brownville; two brothers, Lawrence of Sebec and Carroll of Milo; two sisters, Margaret (Witham) Ingerson of Utah, Marilyn (Witham) Wyman of Milo; two very special grandchildren, Jesse and Jeffrey Jr.; several nieces, nephews and cousins, his special dog "Tippy"; and his granddogs. He will also be sadly missed by his adopted sons, D., F. and M. He was predeceased by a son, James in 2005; a grandson, Joshua in 1993; and a brother, Maurice in 1980. Graveside services in the family lot in Pinetree Cemetery will be announced in the spring. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 343 Gorham Rd., South Portland ME 04106-2317. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
