Malcolm W. Mitchell

CORINTH - Malcolm Winfield Mitchell, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, two days before his 85th birthday. Malcolm was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Corinth, the son of Winfield and Neota (Comins) Mitchell. Malcolm graduated from East Corinth Academy, Class of 1940. He was first employed as a sales representative for J.L. Paine Co. of Corinth. His sales route covered most of the Down East and towns north from Greenville to Millinocket plus the greater Bangor area. The company later merged and operated as Triangle Wholesale of Bangor and Malcolm worked many years for them until they were purchased by Carl H. Smith Foods Inc. where he eventually retired. Malcolm was an 11-year member of the planning board for the Town of Corinth where he lived all his life. He was also a lifetime member of the Corinth Volunteer Fire Department where he served several years as secretary to the Fireman's Benefit Association. Malcolm volunteered as a scout master for Corinth's Boy Scout Troop No. 53 in a time of need. He was an avid outdoorsman who traveled to Alaska, Newfoundland, Labrador and Quebec on hunting and fishing trips. He loved his garden, fruit trees and making apple cider at his home in Corinth. After retiring, Malcolm spent winters in Florida where he played golf and has a "Hole in One" recorded at a Mulberry, Florida golf course. During his life he was a faithful Red Sox fan who never gave up hope. Malcolm is survived by his wife of 56 years, Winifred (Burton) Mitchell; three children, Susan (Mitchell) Libby and her husband, Mark, of Bradford, Russell Mitchell and his wife, Sandra, of Ramona, Calif. and Terry Mitchell and his wife, Linda, of Garland; eight grandchildren, Elise Libby of North Waterford, Shiloh Mitchell, Shantel Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell and Cameron Mitchell, all of California, Malcolm "Alex" Mitchell and Marissa Mitchell of Garland; two great-grandchildren, Pierce Libby and Dylan Hutchins of North Waterford.
