SEBEC - Inez Mabel (Doore) Green, 85, wife of the late Robert Green, died peacefully in her home Nov. 9, 2005, with her children by her side. Inez was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Dover-Foxcroft, the youngest child of Charles and Bertha (Stevens) Doore. She was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1939. She and Bob were married Sept. 27, 1940 and made their home in Sebec where they raised their family and lived out their life. In 1960, Inez began the career she loved at Mayo Memorial Hospital, working in various departments and eventually earning her a nursing license. She was a dedicated emergency room nurse where her calm, capable demeanor put patients at ease and her knowledge and skills earned her the respect and admiration of her co-workers. In 1987, she was awarded the Dr. Frist Humanitarian Award. Inez retired in 1991 to enjoy her life on her small farm in Sebec. Inez and her husband, Bob, shared a lifelong love of the land, farming and gardening. They always had a large and bountiful garden and, in later years, a substantial raspberry patch. They truly possessed "green thumbs". Inez was a farm girl at heart and had a special love for her animals and pets. It is impossible to think of her without thinking of her working in the garden, picking raspberries or riding her beloved tractor. Her large and rowdy family was the joy of her life. She turned every holiday into an event. Life was lived and enjoyed to the fullest at the Green family home. Her love and concern for her children was evident to the end. She is survived by her son, Joel and his wife, Joyce, of Derby; her daughters, Sharon Manchester and her husband, Ken, of Sebec, Becky Henderson and her husband, Carl, of St. Francis, Kathy Russell and her husband, Dwight, of Milo, Roxanne Easler and her husband, David, of Corinth, Lynette Kroemer of Corinth, and Robin Green and her husband, Wendall Sweetser, of Bryant Pond. Also her "precious girl" and faithful companion, Susie; 17 grandchildren, a special grandson, Shawn who provided her with a great deal of care, comfort and support and also a helping hand whenever needed, Dawn, Bob, Merlie Jo, Laurie, Rob, Butch, Amy, Holly, Heidi, Heather, Monica, Josh, Ben, Jon, Andrew and Jennifer; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Lyle Doore and his wife, Phyllis; a very special sister, Ada May Herring; and a sister-in-law, Martha Green Rollins; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Curtis; two grandchildren, Stephen Russell and Lisa Curtis; five sisters and two brothers. A heartfelt thank you to Community Health and Counseling Services Hospice program, the emergency room staff and Dr. David McDermott for taking such good care of our Mom during her life. There will be a private, family graveside service. Friends are invited to join the family at the Green home in Sebec 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. In lieu of flowers, those who wish can send contributions to the Inez M. Green Scholarship Fund, in care of Kathleen Russell, 61 Elm St., Milo, ME 04463.
