Leo E. Russell

MEDFORD CENTER - Leo E. Russell, 81, husband for 60 years of the late Inez F. (Stairs) Russell, died Oct. 30, 1999, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born in Medford, Nov. 6, 1917, the son of Charles Sidney and Viola (Neal) Russell. Leo was an Army veteran of World War II and worked for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1978. He was a golden sheaf member and past master of Coldbrook Grange No. 436 of Medford and a member and past master of Composite Lodge No. 168 AF & AM of LaGrange. He was active in the Town of Medford town government, serving as chairman of the Board of Selectmen for several years. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Dennis E. and Joy A. Russell of Brownville and Charles S. and Mary-Ellen Russell of Derry N.H.; a daughter and her husband, Donna L. and Jeffrey Veino of Medford Center; five grandchildren, Lynn Kearns, Dawn Spencer, Adam Poulin, Reginald Poulin and Jeffrey Russell; two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Everett. Gravesides services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Medford Center Cemetery with the Rev. Clark Osborn officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, P.O. Box 050-067, Staten Island, N.Y. 10305-0005.
