ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine College of Education and Human Development honored 75 students, including seven from The Eastern Gazette area, at the spring Presidential Academic Achievement Award Ceremony. The students represent communities in 13 Maine counties, five other states, Canada and Germany. They were introduced by faculty and congratulated by College Dean Robert Cobb at the evening program, attended by family and friends.

Each student received a Presidential Academic Achievement pin. The one-time award is presented to students who have earned a 3.60 or higher grade point average during the most recent semester and a 3.0 average over the past two semesters.

Local students receiving the award and their hometowns are: Bradford - Anna Wickett ; Cambridge - Courtney Martin; Charleston - Richard Jelley; Dexter - Samantha Haskell; Milo - Allison Lyford; Palmyra - Lisa Neal; and Pittsfield - Sarah Bolster.
