Piscataquis County Retired Educators

Piscataquis County Retired Educators met for the first meeting of the year at the Covered Bridge Restaurant for a dinner meeting with twelve members and three guests.Guests were Paul Levensalor,Vanessa Cousins and Joan Hanscom. President Phil Gerow welcomed all and led the group in the Collect.Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and singing of God Bless America.

He announced that this year will be the 50th Anniversary of Maine Retired Teachers and asked for personally hand-crafted items for display at the Fall Convention.

Secretary Minnie McCormick took roll call and members signed a card for Joyce Bridge who is moving.

Phil introduced Joan Hanscom, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Accounts Manager. She spoke regarding insurance for retiring teachers and explained some of the benefits and packages. She announced that the State share of insurance will increase to 35 percent this year.

The Secretary's report was read and accepted. A report of the MRTA membership meeting Training Sessions was also read. The treasurer's report was read and accepted. Treasurer John Glover explained that our account is with Key Bank and is a Public Service Account. Balance reported was $752.04. $7.50 was collected for the Scholarship Fund.

President Phil reported that Perry Amsden wanted news for the Clarion. Phil distributed papers about The Clarion, Volunteer Hours, ideas to encourage members to report hours, and Legislative Contact Team.

The next meeting will be May 23. Anyone wishing to attend may contact Phil Gerow in Milo. The meeting was adjourned.
