Henderson announces candidacy for House seat in District 112

DOVER-FOXCROFT John Henderson has announced his candidacy for election to the Maine House of Representatives. The Democrat from Dover-Foxcroft seeks to represent the towns of Atkinson, Dover-Foxcroft, Parkman and Sangerville in Piscataquis County and Bradford in Penobscot County, which comprise House District 112. He will be running as a clean elections candidate.Henderson is a social studies teacher at Foxcroft Academy.

Henderson is nearing completion of a graduate degree in business management at Maine Maritime Academy,and has undergraduate degrees in political science and German studies from the University of Southern Maine. He has served as an educator and administrator at Maine Maritime Academy and Westbrook College, as well as a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America.

"The people of this area deserve an energetic representative in Augusta. The business of government and advocacy for our area does not stop when the gavel drops," says Henderson, "When the legislature is in session I will be your person in Augusta, not your person on the road to Augusta. This area of Maine is facing critical challenges now, and that will continue in the immediate future. The declining population base has deep implications for education, tax policy, and public budgeting. On the other hand these towns are set in an are great natural richness and beauty, and enjoy a very healthy sense of community, which make them great places to live, work and visit. The future welfare of the area will depend on increasing cooperation among communities and organizations at home, and aggressive advocacy in Augusta. There are opportunities as well as challenges."

Henderson volunteers in his community as a Cub Scout leader, Key Club advisor, Kiwanis member, and as a member of his church council. His wife of ten years is Mirna Reyes Henderson, a member of Foxcroft Academy Class of 1987. They have two children; Jeremi who is in the second grade, Gabrielle, who is in first grade.
