Sebec holds town meeting

Article from The Piscataquis Observer, Vol. 164, No. 33, August 14, 2002

SEBEC Residents packed the meeting room at the Harland A. Ladd Municipal Building Monday night for the annual town meeting, passing all but one of the 42 articles on the agenda.

The only article not accepted by residents was a citizen-initiated $30,000 proposal for partial paving of the Cove Road. Although some who live on the road favored the request, saying that substantial work was required to maintain now-gravel road, the article was turned down by a majority of those present. Approval of the article would have added a little over one mil to the total budget.

Overall, residents approved a 2002-03 budget totaling just over $550,000 - a 14.5 percent increase over last year's budget that brings the mil rate up to 14.775. Taxes on a $50,000 home in Sebec will be $738.75 in 2002, up $93.75 from 2001.

Residents elected to fill town offices include: Buzz Small, selectman ; Carol Cress, town clerk ; Carol Cole, town treasurer and tax collector ; Emery Cole, road commissioner ; Bob Slama, budget committee members; Virgina Dow, SAD 68 director and Ruth Nason, Hospital Administrative District 4 Director.
