Junior-heavy squad making play off run

MILO Heading into the season, first-year Penquis girls coach Brent Bailey hoped for his squad to keep their heads above water while gaining experience and trying to find a scorer or two to replace three stars who graduated off of last year's 18 - 3 team

While the Lady Patriots have yet to find someone like Megan Russell, Lindsay Hamlin, or April Allen, they have turned into one of the seasons pleasant surprises, becoming an easy team to root for on the way to a 7 - 5 record.

After finding their way through early season victories over Katahdin and PCHS, Penquis has taken solid wins over Hermon and Mattanawcook. The Patriots also pushed a tough Central team to the limit before falling 62-56 in East Corinth.

With no standout scorer, senior center Jean Hamlin, juniors Farrar Cobb, Shannon Gerrish, Becca Madden, and sophomore Kate Hamlin have all took turns putting points on the board, while a number of players off the bench, including junior Heather Dolley also get minutes.

Penquis has telling rematches on the way against Hermon, Sterns, and Mattanawcook.
