PENQUIS ART SHOWCASE - Mary Shapleigh, Visual Arts teacher at Penquis Valley High School in Milo, stands behind some of the functional clay sculptures created by her eighth-grade students and displayed at The Heart of Maine Gallery in Dover-Foxcroft. The young artists joined two pinch pots together to create a hollow structure and used two glazes while working in the style of contemporary ceramic artist Debra Fleck-Stabley. Many of Shapleigh's students havebeen working with clay since their time in her elementary program, and their work over the years has led many of them to acquire significant skill in the medium.
