Patriot softball has core back for run at the playoffs

Article from The Piscataquis Observer, Vol. 165, No. 27, April 13, 2003

MILO After losing just one senior to graduation off of last year's successful play off team, Penquis will put another tough team between the foul lines this year.

Anchoring the outfield is Mindy Dyer, who Martin says is an excellant centerfielder. Sophomore Michelle Mulherin should make some waves with her bat, says Martin.

Taking the mound for the Patriots will be Dani Graves, who pitched about half the innings for Penquis a season ago.

"She works hard in the offseason," says Martin. "She has improved a lot, and gotten her control down."

Six seniors return to coach Dick Martin's team, all with plenty of game experience. The team features catcher Arielle Sickler, who Martin says is a "good power and average hitter". The Patriots are strong all the way up the middle, too, as shortstop Erika Morrill returns after missing much of last season due to injury.
