SEBEC Voters OKed added funding for disposal of solid waste and for general government operation at a special town meeting, but opted out of co-signing on a loan for a new fire truck.

According to Selectman Susan Dow, $5,000 was approved in additional funding to cover the town's bill from the Dover-Foxcroft landfill for the year. The money will be moved from undesignated surplus to "cover the 20-plus percentage increased operating costs we did not budget for," Dow explained.

Voters also appoved $2,500 to be moved from surplus to the general government account to purchase equipment for the town office, including a photocopier and a computer. Dow said the town's photocopier has been under constant repair and it needs to be replaced, while the only computer owned by the town is located in the treasurer's home office.

"Our town clerk and municipal officers could benefit from having a computer available in the town office," Dow said.

Any funds not spent toward those items will remain in the account to cover salaries and office supplies.

The Sebec Volunteer Fire Department's request for the town to co-sign on a loan of up to $90,000 to purchase a new fire truck was denied. Dow said that the majority at the special town meeting felt that more discussion was needed on the issue.

Fire Chief Robert Slama said the article is likely to appear again on the annual town meeting warrant in August.

The volunteer department covers the towns of Sebec, Bowerbank and, Barnard.
