SEBEC Local crafters, artists and vendors of specialty goods now have a new storefront location to display their wares.

Our Maine Idea, owned by Kim and Tim Hill of Sebec, opened for the season May 1 at 259 Milo Rd., in the former location of Cat's Comer. The business is now looking for vendors to help fill shelves, racks and floor space.

"Basically, we wanted to give local vendors a storefront for their products," Kim Hill said on opening day. "We have wall space, tables, floor space. We require rent only &Mac247; there's no commission."

There is also a chance to work at the store to lower the rent, which is $2 per square foot.

Kim Hill closed Cat's Comer after two and a half years last March. She said she wanted to move the business in another direction one which required less of her time to supervise.

"However," she said, "I wanted to keep the shop going."

She said she also is looking forward to offering workshops on scrapbooking in the loft area of the building to adults and children. A scrapbooking workshop for youngsters is in the works, and a sign up sheet will be at the shop for interested individuals.

Supplies at the workshop will be provided. The shop specializes in scrapbooking materials and offers the necessities, including adhesives, acid-free archival papers, stickers and albums.

Beth Stevens, a watercolor artist from Dover-Foxcroft, is scheduled to give an all-day workshop on June 8, from noon to 5 p.m.. Hill said. Supplies will be provided. Examples of Stevens' work is available to view at Our Maine Idea.

The loft space is for rent. Call the store at 564-7697 for prices and more information.

Our Maine Idea is a seasonal business, open from May through December. Hours of operation are Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The business is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
