Orneville man arrested for domestic assault

Article from The Piscataquis Observer, Vol. 165, No. 21, May 21, 2003

ORNEVILLE An Orneville man is facing charges of terrorizing, aggravated assault and obstructing the report of a crime after a domestic assault last Friday at a Lyford Road home.

Clifford Harriman, 50, is being held in Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft. He had not made the $5,000 surety or $500 cash bail by Tuesday afternoon.

According to Allen Emerson, investigator with the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office, police searched for Harriman in the woods behind the residence for nearly three hours. He said the man allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old at the home near 4 p.m., and disabled the telephone while a person at the residence was trying to call police, before fleeing on foot into the woods.

Seach units made up of deputies from the sheriff's department, troopers and canine units with the Maine State Police responded to the scene. Milo police assisted. After two subsequent searches, Harriman was located in the woods around 7:30 p.m, Emerson said.

He is facing two counts of aggravated assault, and one each of terrorizing and obstructing the report of a crime. There is no court date set. Emerson said Harriman was on probation at the time of the incident.
