On the auction block...

Article from The Piscataquis Observer, Vol. 165, No. 24, June 11, 2003

This year marks the 10th annual auction for Three Rivers Kiwanis, representing Milo-Brownville and surrounding communities. According to Todd Lyford, chairman of the auction, this year's auction will take place June 26 and 27 in a tent in the Milo Farmer's Union parking lot.

Each year the auction brings in between $8,000 and $10,000, Lyford said, adding "It's our main fundraiser for the year."

Proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Terrific Kids program in area schools, the Kid's Comer readings at Milo Free Public Library, Penquis Valley High School's Key Club, Secret Santa, Reading is Fundamental in area schools and the Milo Town Hall restoration project, among other local charities.

In addition, there will be a yard sale for smaller items, Lyford said.

To donate items, contact Eben DeWitt (943-2486), Todd Lyford (943-7733) or Edwin Treworgy (943-7748).

The Sebec Fire Department also holds an annual auction. This year's auction is set for August 9-10 in the North Roads Fire Station in the Hariand Ladd Building.

Proceeds will benefit the department's purchase of a new fire truck.

The auction will take place from 2 p.m. to dark on Saturday, August 9, and from noon until dark on Sunday, August 10, or until the auction is sold out.

A bake sale will coincide with the auction.

The fire department is seeking donations of household goods, gift certificates from area businesses and other items to auction. To donate, call the fire station at 564-2090 or Fire Chief Robert Slama at 564-7268.

Somebody can pick up the items.
