BANGOR The Bangor Region Leadership Institute's Alumni Association recently held their annual dinner on Friday, May 23. The Bangor Region Leadership Institute was created by local community leaders to provide a program that nurtures future leaders who will impact the economic, social and cultural environment of the region. Many alumni of the Institute have given selflessly of themselves and demonstrated exceptional leadership to shape the greater Bangor region.

Merlene Sanborn of Brownville was presented this year's 2003 G. Clifton Eames Leadership Award to celebrate the commitment, dedication and strong leadership capabilities she has demonstrated as a leader. As director of the Penquis Higher Education Center in Dover-Foxcroft, Sanborn has championed the development of the Penquis Leadership Institute, which is modeled after the BRLI. Sanborn was nominated by her peers to receive this prestigious award.

The G. Clifton Eames Leadership Award was established by the Bangor Region Leadership Institute Alumni Association to: recognize and promote strong community involvement and provide incentives for the continued application of leadership skills; recognize BRLI alumni who have used their leadership skills, knowledge and resources to benefit the community and the region; to highlight examples of those alums in the community who truly serve as examples of leadership for others; and to elevate the awareness of the benefits of dynamic leadership in the community and region.
