Police investigating SUV theft in Milo

MILO Police are investigating the theft of a sports utility vehicle in Milo that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to Milo Police Chief Todd Lyford, Edward Witham, owner of the 1992 Ford Explorer, stopped at a Riverside Street residence and had gone into the home, leaving his keys in his vehicle.

A young male, someone whom was at the residence, entered the vehicle and drove off, Lyford said.

The SUV was recovered in a ditch at around 3 a.m. on the Stagecoach Road in Sebec, Lyford said.

Lyford said the driver went joyriding in the vehicle, causing about $1,000 in damage to the vehicle.

He said there is a suspect, and that charges are expected.
