Associate principal headed to SAD 5 in Rockland

MILO The associate principal at Penquis Valley High / Middle School has resigned to accept a principal's position at Rockland District Middle School.

Deborah Folsom's last day at the Milo school is Nov. 30. She will start Dec. 1 in her new position at the SAD 5 school.

Folsom, a resident of Brownville, has worked in SAD 41 for the past decade originally as the director of special education. In 1999, Folsom moved into the position of associate principal for grades 7 to 12.

Her letter of resignation was accepted "with thanks and regret" by the SAD 41 board of directors Nov. 5, Walker said.

"She has served the SAD 41 community and students very well," Walker said. "We'll miss her. We hate to see her go. But this is a great opportunity for her."

The district already has advertised to fill the position through the end of the school year, and is in the process of interviewing nine applicants, according to the superintendent. Walker was pleased with the quality and number of cabpable prospects.

"We have a good pool of applicants" for the interim position, he said.

It is expected that a candidate will be selected by the Dec. 3 school board meeting.

Walker said the position may be "restructured before next year." If needed, a full-time permanent replacement for Folsom will be hired in 2004-05.
