Article from The Piscataquis Observer, Vol. 165, No. 50, December 10, 2003

AUGUSTA Technical Sergeant William Mulherin of Milo and Staff Sergeant LeRoy Trask, Jr., of Portland dedicated an American flag to all Maine citizens at a ceremony in Augusta Nov. 25.

The flag, which flew over Iraq, and a plaque were presented to Governor John Baldacci, along with Congressman Michael Michaud, House Speaker Patrick Colwell, Senator Steve Stanley and Representative Guy Duprey. Sgt. Mulherin lives in Duprey's and Stanley's district.

The plaque, in part, read "Certification that this American Flag has flown over Iraq aboard a U-2S reconnaissance aircraft on 24 April 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. This symbol of American pride and tradition flew to an altitude of over 70,000 feet on a high altitude reconnaissance mission, with Major Glass, a pilot assigned to the 99th Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron."
