Milo mixed doubles tennis tournament

MILO On July 22 and 23, the Milo Recreation Department sponsored a mixed doubles tennis tournament in celebration of the town fire department's 100th anniversary.

Each of the nine participating teams played eight 25-minute games with a goal of having fun and competing to win as many games as possible.

The championship went right down to the wire with the team of Ernie Madden and Robin Demers defeating Torrey Ellis and Liza Comeau in the final match by a score of 6-4.

Madden and Demers finished the tournament with 59 wins in the tourney and were awarded gift certificates to The Restaurant. Ellis and Comeau received second place honors with 56 wins and earned gift certificates to Pat's Pizza.

Jim and Lynn Lubas came in third place with 44 wins, followed by Russ Carey and Chris Hamlin with 41 wins, Ben Kittredge and Barb Hamlins' 39, lan Carey and Leslie Martin with 34, 21 wins by David Strout and Tracey Hartman, Mike Comeau and Amanda MacPheters' 20 and Todd and Diane Lyford with 10 wins.

Other tennis tournaments are scheduled for later in the summer at the Harris Field tennis courts on Elm Street. Upcoming tourney dates are as follows: women's singles Saturday, August 5; men's singles Saturday, August 19; mixed doubles Saturday, August 26; women's doubles Saturday, September 9; and men's doubles Saturday, September 16.
