Smart Starts for Students Accepting Registrations for Assistance with Back to School Supplies
July 13, 2009 - TRC
If you or someone you know lives in the greater Piscataquis region and has school age children attending MSAD #4, MSAD #41, MSAD #46, MSAD #68, or Union #60 schools, you may register for assistance at www.PiscataquisResources.org (select Smart Starts for Students on the left), or by calling 564-7116 or 1-800-215-4942 ext. 200, or by stopping by the Penquis office at 50 North Street, Dover-Foxcroft.
There are also many opportunities for businesses and individuals to support this effort. On Tuesday, July 28th the Penquis Summer Fun Program will hold a car wash open to the public from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Station on East Main Street. Proceeds from this event will benefit this school supply drive.
Penquis will also be participating in the Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming Parade on August 1. Parade watchers can contribute to this effort at the Penquis van where Penquis will be collecting supplies and donations along the parade route.
In addition, Rowell’s Garage has donated a bus that will be parked near the downtown festival and taking donations for the day.
Many area businesses have joined the effort by placing collection boxes and cans at their office locations. Currently, we have collection boxes at Bangor Savings Bank branches in Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville, Camden National Bank branches in Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville, WDME, Thackery’s Office and Craft Supply, Womancare, St. Augustine’s Church in Dover-Foxcroft and St. John’s Church in Brownville Junction.
Thank you to all the businesses supporting this very important effort. There is more to be done to help Penquis help students this year ! Any interested businesses and individuals wishing to donate supplies or money, to place a donation box at their place of business, or to participate in the dress down on Fridays in July fundraiser should contact Jim Macomber at 564-7116, email@example.com or visit www.PiscataquisResources.org and click on Smart Starts for Students to print out a donation form.
