Tourism Development Discussion

July 12, 2009 - TRC

Milo has used what we have to shape our way of life. Nature has been generous in providing three unique rivers, acres of wetlands , and stands of forests. How best do we choose to nurture, develop and share our community through tourism ?
On Wednesday, July 15, at the Milo Town Hall at 6:00 PM the Piscataquis Tourism Development Authority will offer information about tourism in our area.

Is there some way to try to capture the extensive local knowledge to help grow our local nature-based tourism economy ?

Where are the important trail linkages ?

Where do we need trails, trailheads, and signs ?

What areas are important for people to "get away" from it all ?

The Piscataquis Tourism Development Authority, in cooperation with the AMC and the Center for Community GIS tried to do just that. By conducting more than 50 interviews of nature-based tourism businesses and organizations who work in Piscataquis County, we've collected some of that knowledge in a form that can produce any number of maps to be used for discussion and planning.

We want to share this information with you, and invite your questions and discussion as the Piscataquis Tourism Development Authority works to make this region a leader in Maine's nature-based tourism economy !
