Teacher Certification Information Session

May 11, 2009 - TRC

People interested in becoming certified to teach at the elementary level in Maine will have an opportunity to take part in a live, interactive television session at the Penquis Higher Education Center on Wednesday, May 13. The information session, which will begin at 4:00 pm and end at 5:30 pm, will offer opportunities for the public to learn more about alternative pathways to teacher certification available regionally. Professional staff and faculty from the program will be available at the session to explain the program and answer questions.

University College offers students the option to earn accreditation for elementary education certification through the University of Maine at Presque Isle/University of Maine at Augusta Elementary Teacher Preparation Program, which is designed for those who cannot enroll in a traditional teacher education program at a UMS campus. The program offers options for people who donít yet have a bachelorís degree as well as for those who currently have a degree but wish to prepare for a teaching career. The curriculum adheres to the State of Maine Department of Education Requirements.

For more information about the May 13 teacher certification information sessions and to reserve a seat, please call Helen Kelly at the Penquis Higher Education Center at 1-800-590-2942 or 564-2942 or email Helen at hkelly@emcc.edu.
