October 20, 2008 - TRC
Each year the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) recognizes one teacher from a Piscataquis County school for doing an outstanding job with natural resource education. This year, the 2008 Outstanding Conservation Education Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Judy Chase
Thompson of the Brownville Elementary School. The award was presented to Mrs. Thompson at a special school assembly that was followed by a slide show of an outing to Little Lyford Pond she took her class on.
Mrs. Thompson is the sixth grade class room teacher, and has been a teacher in MSAD #41 for about 25 years. Currently, she is very active in developing a nature trail on school property with other teachers, students, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. This trail will have seven learning centers on it
when finished. Lynn Weston of Brownville Elementary wrote in her nomination letter, “Mrs. Thompson is an excellent science teacher and conservationist. She works very hard to help her students learn more about the area in which they live.”
Congratulations, Mrs. Thompson !
