Bangor Hydro Electric Company Prepares for Tropical Storm KyleSeptember 26, 2008 - TRCBangor, ME--Bangor Hydro Electric Company is keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Kyle, which is expected to pick up speed and head north Saturday. Staff members from all areas of the company are preparing for potential outages over the weekend, especially in the coastal areas. As the storm track continues to change, it’s difficult to determine exactly which areas will be most affected; therefore, Bangor Hydro is planning to staff additional field crews and tree crews in all areas, with a focus on Hancock and Washington County. In addition, the Customer Service Center will increase staff Sunday to handle customer calls as quickly as possible. The quickest way for customers to report outages is through our automated telephone system by entering an account number or the phone number of the outage location.Depending on the severity of the storm, damage to the system could be extensive in some areas and customers are encouraged to prepare for that possibility by locating flashlights with working batteries, keeping a battery-operated radio available with fresh batteries, making sure you have a supply of fresh water, keeping some non-perishable food on hand. Customers using generators or alternate heat sources are encouraged to follow the manufacturer’s directions.“Given the current forecast, there’s a good chance we’ll have downed trees and power lines.” said Bangor Hydro Communications Officer Susan Faloon. “We can’t stress enough how important it is for people to call us rather than attempt to move them.”Customers may call Bangor Hydro’s Service Center to report a power outage, downed line or other power emergency at 1-800-440-1111.
