New Ob/Gyn Joins Mayo Women's HealthOctober 19, 2007 - TRCDOVER-FOXCROFT - George R. Randy Kunhardt, M.D., a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, will join Nancy Driscoll, M.D. on Nov. 19 at Mayo Womens Health. The practice is located in the medical office building on the Mayo Regional Hospital campus in Dover-Foxcroft.Dr. Kunhardt will be replacing Deborah Surette, M.D., whose last day at Mayo Womens Health will be Nov. 16. Dr. Surette, who has practiced at Mayo since July, 2003, will be relocating to southern Maine.Drs. Kunhardt and Driscoll will offer a full range of womens health services for residents of the Penquis region. Obstetrics services available through Mayo Womens Health include prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care.Gynecological services include routine preventive care, basic infertility services, evaluation of abnormal PAP smears and bleeding problems, and surgery. Care of menopausal women is a particular interest of Mayo Womens Health, including issues surrounding osteoporosis and incontinence.Dr. Kunhardt comes to Mayo from the San Francisco Bay area, where he has been in private practice as an OB/GYN since 1997. In California, he was a member of the active medical staff at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae and Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo.He has been certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1998, and is a Fellow of the American College of OB/GYN.Although relocating from the West Coast, Dr. Kunhardt has spent most of his life in New England, and lived in Maine previously. A native of the Boston area, he graduated from Boston University School of Medicine, completed his internship and residency training in Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut, and practiced medicine in Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine before moving to California. His first year of practice as an OB/GYN was at Mt. Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor.After earning his medical degree at BU in 1978, Dr. Kunhardt started his career as a family practice physician, completing his internship at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, and his residency at the University of Massachusetts, Fitchburg Family Practice Residency. He then served a four-year National Health Service Corps commitment in Latino health at Cambridge (Mass.) City Hospital, in family practice with obstetrics and pediatrics. That experience was followed by a year-long obstetrics fellowship for Spanish-speaking physicians at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.Dr. Kunhardt served as a family practice physician from 1988-1990 in Barre, Vt., but decided he wanted to specialize in OB/GYN and went on to finish a three-year OB/GYN residency program at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
