October 31, 2007 - TRC

DOVER-FOXCROFT - A no-cost women's health screening day is scheduled in Dover-Foxcroft on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Free mammograms for breast cancer screening will be offered at Mayo Regional Hospital's Imaging Center for Women, while Pap tests and pelvic exams for cervical cancer screening will be provided at Penquis Health Services and Dover-Foxcroft Family Medicine.

Funding is provided by the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program.

The Oct. 9 event is for Maine women over 40 with little or no health insurance. There are limited openings for women age 40-49, with priority given to symptomatic or high-risk women. Women with MaineCare or Medicare Part B are not eligible. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-800-350-5180.

In addition to the Oct. 9 event, Mayo Regional Hospital will offer free mammograms throughout October in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These breast cancer screenings are available to women over age 35 with no health insurance or high-deductible insurance, and who may not qualify for the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program.

Mayo's Imaging Center for Women will expand its hours throughout October, opening up new slots each day, Monday through Friday, at 7 a.m. for the free mammograms.

Interested and qualified women should call their doctor's office for an appointment.

All patients who have a mammogram in October at Mayo will receive a pink carnation.

There will also be a free weekly drawing during the month for a pink floral bouquet from local florists, with any member of the public eligible to sign up for the drawing in the hospital's main lobby. Participating florists are Hudson Avenue Florists and Heart's Desire, both in Guilford; Riverside Florists, Dover-Foxcroft; and Spring Street Greenhouse, Dexter.
