American Jamboree a Foot-Stomping Success !!!

September 30, 2007 - TRC

Three Rivers Kiwanis owes a huge thank you to a wonderful group of musicians and singers who filled our Town Hall Performing Arts center with the sounds of true American spirit and love.

An old-time American Jamboree was held on Saturday night and what a great time we had. The crowd of over 200 helped to raise over $1,000 !

Admission was by donation at the door, as were the refreshments and the 50/50 raffle netted one lucky participant $140, as well as the SAD 41 after school program.

The show featured musicians from the area as well as further away, of entertainers who played everything from acoustic guitar to steel guitars, electric guitars, piano mandolins, tambourines and other instruments. One of the highlights for me was watching a very talented percussionist play along with maracas and a set of big spoons!! Another highlight was seeing Slim Andrews, a Maine Country legend, who has been inducted to the Maine Country Music hall of Fame. As you can tell, he music was highlighted by singing from some very fine vocalists. A rendition of Roy Orbison’s “Crying” was flawless, and the selections included everything from country music to blues, gospel and old favorites.

The show was offered to us by Milo’s own Ronnie Knowles. While his excellent guitar playing and singing came as a surprise to some of us, none of us were surprised by his strikingly good looks in his Western shirt and hat. He also made a pretty good looking Hippie!! Ronnie is a wonderful friend and resident of Milo, and we are thrilled he thought of Kiwanis and the kids of MSAD #41.

There are also some individuals who need to be recognized: Edwin and Ethelyn Treworgy for organizing the event; they are amazing ! Herbie Carey and Ricky Bradeen for providing us with Fire Protection. Blaine Chadwick for making the auditorium look so spiffy! Natalie Hitchcock for representing the Milo PTO and helping with every aspect of the event, especially the dreaded Clean Up.

And a “well-done” to our faithful group of Kiwanians. I can’t name them all, but believe me, our efforts paid off !

Remember, if we raise $25,000 for the after school program, the amount will be matched, so every dollar we raise is actually $2.
