Track Walk for a CureAugust 11, 2007 - TRCHowlandís Mid Maine Racing TEAM to host ďTRACK WALK FOR A CUREĒ to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsonís research Fred and Josh Ireland of Howland will host a fun walk on the track at Speedway 95 on August 11th, at 6:00 p.m. to raise funds for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsonís Research. The Irelands aim to raise $2500.00 or more to enable the Foundation to continue aggressively funding research to find better treatments and a cure for Parkinsonís disease. They are hosting this event as members of Team Fox, the Foundationís community initiative to raise funding and awareness for Parkinsonís research. ďWe chose to host this fun walk as part of Team Fox because nearly every ten minutes someone is diagnosed with Parkinsonís disease, over 7,000 in the state of Maine alone, and we wanted to do something personally to further the Foundationís work. They are funding cutting edge research to bring meaningful advances in treatments and ultimately a cureĒ said Fred Ireland. More than six million people worldwide are living with Parkinsonís disease Ė a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder whose symptoms typically progress from mild tremors to complete physical incapacitation. There is no known cure for Parkinsonís disease. Current treatments mask symptoms but do not alter or slow the disease progression. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. The Annual economic cost of Parkinsonís in the U. S. is estimated to exceed $25 billion. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsonís Research is dedicated to ensuring the development of a cure for Parkinsonís disease within this lifetime through an aggressively funded research agenda. To date the Foundation has funded more than $85 million in research, either directly or through partnerships, since its founding in November 2000.For more information contact : Fred Ireland - 207-732-3360 Ė e-mail :firstname.lastname@example.org or Josh Ireland Ė 207-290-2410 Submitted by : Bill DaButler , Public Relations (Weekend racing), Track AnnouncerSpeedway 95, Odlin Rd, Hermon Me.NOTE - This article reflects the views of the author and not necessarily those of the TRC Alliance Team.
