Coming Soon: Statewide Trailer Registration Online Renewal ServiceFebruary 09, 2007 - TRCAUGUSTA, Maine – February 9, 2007 – The Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap is pleased to announce that citizens will soon be able to renew trailer registrations online through the state’s website, Maine.gov. The new online service, available later this month, will allow any owner of a non-excise-taxable trailer registered in the state of Maine to renew their trailer registration online with a credit card.Non-excise-taxable trailers are the most common trailers registered in Maine, and include utility, snowmobile, ATV, boat, and box trailers. This service also may be used to renew commercial semi-trailers. This service Online renewals will be available both to Maine residents and out-of-state owners of trailers registered in Maine. It, will and is expected to provide a convenient alternative to the current renewal process that requires visiting a BMV branch or municipal office or mailing in a payment.“We expect this to be a popular service with trailer owners, both in-state and out-of-state,” said Secretary of State Matt Dunlap. “We’re finding that many citizens prefer doing renewals online, and that benefits everyone, by reducing shortening lines and reducing wait times at the BMV branch locations.”Registrations due to expire within 60 days may be renewed online, as well as expired registrations. Trailer registrations may be renewed for a one-year or two-year period, and owners will have the option to renew multiple trailers in one transaction. At the end of the transaction, users of the service will be able to print out a confirmation page that will act as a temporary registration until the new registration and tags are received by mail.
