Speedway 95 - Wacky Sunday Results

October 01, 2006 - TRC

(Hermon, ME) The final race event of the 2006 season, rained out from September 24th, took place on Sunday October 1st at Speedway 95 in Hermon, with a number of mixed events including a double “O” race and a backwards race.

In the Big Enduro division, the red flag flew 2 times in the 50-lap feature, once for a roll over by Hudson’s John Curtis, and the second time for fluid on the track. Steve Haining of Newport, and Alvin MacNevin of Clifton battled for the top spot, but it was Haining that would earn the win, with MacNevin second, and David Grant of Hermon in third.

The green flag kicked off the race, with a field of 38 cars in the Little Enduro division. Hancock’s Ken Ogden flipped over his ride on the first lap drawing out the first red flag, and a two-car collision at lap 20 drew out the second red. Richard Burrill of Ellsworth took home the win, with Darrin Durrell of Newburg second and Stockton Springs’ Duane Seekins in third.

Lindsey Seekins (Duane Seekins’ Daughter) started on the outside pole for the feature race in the Ladies division and picked up the checkered flag, in the third feature race of the night to feature a roll over. Billie Allen of Winterport took second, and Kayla Allen of Penobscot crossed the line for third.

In the Full Size Pick-up Truck division, there were 4 caution flags, and a win for pole sitter Keith Kingsbury of Winterport. Doug Sinclair of Carmel grabbed the second spot, and Peter Drake of Holden finished third.

There were two feature races in the Quirk Chevrolet Super Cup Series, and three championships were awarded. Josh Ireland of Howland earned the win in the first feature and the championship in the American Mini-Cup Series. Wes Perry of East Millinocket won the second feature, but it was Fred Ireland (father of Josh Ireland) who was awarded the series win in the New England Championship Series. Francis Bernard, Jr. of Howland picked up the championship for the Quirk Chevrolet Super Cup Series.

The Double “O” race proved truly exciting for fans with two drivers swapping back and forth, the top spots four times. Jason Trundy of Old Town won the race, despite a tough challenge from Lewis Badger of Milo. Mike Odgen of Bucksport finished third.

Alvin MacNevin of Clifton proved himself the undisputed champion of driving backwards with a spectacular performance in the mixed division backwards race. Jason Trundy of Old Town took the second spot, and Keith Ogden of Old Town earned third.
